Gastric Sleeve or Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Gastric Sleeve or Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

DESCRIPTION

The Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy also known as Gastric Sleeve – is performed by a Bariatric Surgeon and consists in excising 70 to 80% of the size of the stomach.  The remaining part of the stomach consists on a pouch that resembles the shape of a banana.

This procedure is very popular because it brings advantages due to the nature of the surgery. Once the stomach pouch is reduced, the volume it can hold considerably diminishes and reduces the amount of calories (food) that can be consumed. The biggest benefit, however, is the effect the procedure causes in the intestine hormones that impact several factors such as cravings, hunger, satiety, etc.
