Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass

DESCRIPTION

The Gastric Bypass Procedure is performed by a Bariatric Surgeon and consists in dividing the stomach into two pouches – a smaller upper one and a larger lower pouch.  The small intestine is connected to both once it´s re-arranged. There are different techniques for this procedure such as Roux en-Y proximal, Roux en-Y distal, Mini Gastric Bypass and the endoscopic duodenal-jejunal bypass. This procedure is very popular because it brings advantages due to the nature of the surgery.Once the stomach pouch is reduced, the volume it can hold considerably diminishes and reduces the amount of calories (food) that can be consumed. The biggest benefit, however, is the effect the procedure causes in the intestine hormones that impact several factors such as cravings, hunger, satiety, etc.
