My Journey with My Medical Vacations
I wasn’t sure if this was the way to go, but I decided to make the call. The first person I spoke to was Carolina Bandera, Medical Tourism Consultant. I wanted a neck lift, but was told I needed a lower facelift also (after sending pictures for the surgeon to look at). After much research, I decided to get the procedure done in Cancun Mexico. Carolina was very understanding of my concern of getting a medical procedure done outside of the USA. She basically talked me through it, so I felt comfortable to take a chance. She answered all my questions in a timely manner. I was told the fee upfront.
I sent the deposit in. The whole price (around $8500) of which you don’t pay the remaining balance until the surgery. Remember, that price was specific to what I was having done. So different prices for different procedures of course. The price included my ride from and to the airport, the place I stayed for 10 days. All testing, anesthesia, surgery and post-care. Also, IV infusion of homeopathic meds (Vit C, etcetera) that helps with the bruising and swelling. Plus, a one night stay at the hospital with a private duty nurse and a daily check-in nurse.
The second person I spoke to was Betty Corona, Operative Supervisor, who took over from there. She set up the itinerary for what I needed to do prior to surgery and what was going to happen once I got there. She was also very kind and considerate. Very well organized.
Basically, the itinerary goes like this:
The first day I arrived, I was picked up at the airport and taken to the house, where I would spend my next 10 days.
The second day I got me bloodwork done and a chest X-ray. Also, I met with Cardiologist Dr. David Arturo Castan Flores, who did an EKG and physical. I had a lot of confidence in his judgement.
Next, I met with my Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Patricia Panama. She is extremely confident and kind. She got immediately what I wanted and gets right to the point, which I love because I am like that. I felt a lot better after meeting her. I never felt scared with her, I just knew I was with an experienced surgeon. I also have to give a shout out to Dr. Alexandra, that works closely with Dr. Panama. She was there every step of the way.
In addition, there was a nurse that would check in on me daily, Registered Nurse, Ana Lopez, she was the person that I had the most contact with. I just loved her. She would schedule and take me to my appointments as well as visit with me daily. She scheduled everything, so I didn’t have that worry. She is a very good, reliable nurse. I knew I was in good hands.
I stayed in a small house that was in walking distance to stores, one of them Walmart. The House Manager, Valarie, was also very kind. I never felt scared there. The only thing you are responsible for is getting your food and drinks (I would do this the first day). I had a TV in the living room and the bedroom and internet.
I am only one week into recovery and everything is going well. I had very little pain, but very tired, swollen and some bruising, which is normal. I am now regaining some of my strength. I saw Dr Panama and her assistant Dr. The stitches are healing up great. I am heading home tomorrow. I won’t know the final result for weeks, but it looks like I’m heading in the right direction. This was not my first surgery. I had work done in the US and was never taken care of like this and I was disappointed with the outcome. I highly recommend Dr. Panama and her wonderful team.
